Spudz was found as a street dog in Alabama when we were in the area for a shelter assistance program. He approached us while working with a shelter dog (Mia) at our Air BnB - he looked in decent shape so, we looked for a possible owner but learned that he's been on the streets for a few years. Even to this day, no one has claimed him. The Director gave him an option; "You can continue the life you're living or come back with us." as she took his slip lead off. Spudz never left her side. Since his long travel back to Ohio, he's been absolutely amazing. He's house-trained, nondestructive. He gets along with cats and dogs, loves kids and is a real people person - er, pooch. Spudz even goes on trips to pet friendly stores and does very well. Spudz is described as an "old soul" kind of dog, gentle and a true best friend. His favorite things to do are laying in the sun or going for car rides. He's not a fan of the crate but does fine in the house. Spudz does have a little separation anxiety which is him whining, then going to lay down somewhere. He is does not trust new dogs on the outside very quickly. Any new dogs that have come into our home for Rescue, he's done fine with. Any dogs that he does not know he will growl because he doesn't know if they are safe or unsafe. Once it had been established, they are safe, he opens up to play. He does well with low-moderate energy dogs and while he does fine with the males, he does better with female dogs. Spudz changes his behavior with different dogs. Some he's gentler with, others he rough plays, others he doesn't play with all - as he's great at "reading the room". While he may have been a street dog, he's definitely lived in a home before. A FANTASTIC dog all things considering. ** Mia is his best friend, and she needs to be in a home with other dogs. She has only ever chosen to be near him compared to other dogs. We would love to see them together. Please refer to her profile for more information. **Adoption processWe always start off with the application reviewing them at a first come, first serve basis. We look for the best possible compatibility and may ask questions to help to determine if you would be a great possible match. Next, we schedule something known as a "Happy Visit" where you can meet your potential new family member. We usually do this at your property which also covers the brief home visit. However, we also have adoption events or can meet in neutral locations for some animals. Afterwards, you sign an adoption contract and pay for their adoption fee. We check in on a 3-3-3 basis to make sure everything is going well between your new pet while providing resources to help make transitioning smoother.
